100 Year Dash: Week 3 Notes
Week 3: Crowns & Treasures in Heaven
Many go through this life and never give eternity a single thought, outside of just getting to Heaven.
That is a huge mistake! If we plan for retirement in the natural (that may last a few decades), why don't we plan for our eternal retirement?
1 Corinthians 9:23-27 KJVAE“
And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: but I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
Ephesians 2:8-10: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works."
2 Timothy 4:7-8. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.
Paul is talking to saved people. This is not about getting into heaven. It is about reward once we are there.
A look at CROWNS:
Incorruptible Crown - Disciplined, self-controlled living
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Crown of Righteousness - Finishing faithfully and loving His appearing
2 Timothy 4:7, 8
Crown of Life - Enduring trials, faithful unto death
James 1:12;
Revelation 2:10
Crown of glory (Pastor's Crown/Shepherd's Crown) - Faithful shepherding of God's flock
1 Peter 5:2-4
Crown of rejoicing (Soul winners crown) - Souls won and discipled
1 Thessalonians 2:19, 20
Although we are saved by grace, there is a judgment of rewards.
Salvation settles where you will spend eternity. Your dash decides what you will bring into it.
Salvation is in three tenses:
I have been saved from the penalty of my sin. Justification- Just if I'd never sinned because Jesus BECAME sin.
I am being saved from the power of sin. Sanctification- set apart for a purpose. Sin has no power over the believer.
I shall be saved from the presence of sin. Glorification- our glorified bodies will be incorruptible and no longer subject to temptation.
2 Corinthians 5:10: "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad." / Romans 14:10 we shall all stand before th Judgment seat of Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:13-15: our works will be "tried" by fire. Gold, silver, and precious stones remain. Wood, hay, and stubble burn. "If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire."
You can be saved and still show up empty-handed.
“Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.”
James 2:18 KJV
REWARDS:
God wants to reward us!
Hebrews 11:6 KJVAE “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Rewards in Heaven are not "bonuses" or trophies that will be eventually thrown away.
Ps 58:11 CEB “Then it will be said: “Yes, there is a reward for the righteous! Yes, there is a God who judges people on the earth.””
Mt 5:11-12 NLT ““God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.”
Rev 22:12-13 NLT ““Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.””
HEAVENLY TREASURE:
